December 08 What's our happiness thermostat set at?
For my December Blog….Let me share you about the article I read. It was about the happiness phenomenon – how the idea of happiness is being seriously studied in psychological circles and the possibilities that you can actively increase your overall happiness. Evidently, it used to be thought that we were "stuck" with a certain level of happiness, like a basic setting on a thermostat. But now, more research has shown that we can indeed actually work on improving our happiness level. Apart from our major life events, good or bad, that have short-term effects, achieving a daily level of satisfaction is really the goal. And there's a very simple exercise to help us do this. It is suggested that we think back over our day and pick three good things that happened, and analyze why they occurred. Now, we are not talking about something major, like winning the lottery or getting a promotion. They can be quite small, like finding a quarter on the street, to getting a compliment, or finding a parking space. It is that the effect of this little exercise is to make us focus more on the good things that happen, rather than any disappointments of the day. So, why not try it, there is also that famous quote by Abraham Lincoln, "people are as happy as they make up their minds to be." Let’s go ahead and set our happiness thermostat on "high". Merry Christmas to you All... From: Mary Rose November 27 Happy Holidays...November 15 PrayerBirthday Prayer: Lord, let this feast of my birth be a reminder to me of all the gifts and blessings I have received from You this day and all the days of my life. On my day of celebration, I thank you for my life and all of my blessings and ask for another year filled with Your presence in my life that I may continue to grow in Your love. Thank you for my whole family, friends, and all the people I come to know in this journey for they have come to provide me with guidance and support, aid me physically and spiritually. Thank you for Terry for his being the most incredible man a woman could have beside her. I knew from the beginning how special he was. Thank you for letting them all come into my life as my turn has come to share, grow ad learn. They have brought me an experience of peace. They taught me something I never have done. Grant me that I may grow in wisdom and grace, and strengthen my trust in Your Goodness all the days of my life. Creator God, I do not know what lies ahead for me this year. Yet I know that You are holding my future in Your hand. Let my ways be pleasing to you. As You have promised, be with me, Lord. Grid me with Your strength and grace so that I can live for Your light. Enable me to draw closer to You that I may walk in Your peace and be the creative and loving person that You intend for me to be. In my heart may Your peace which passes understanding abide all the days of my life. I ask this and all things in the sure and certain knowledge of Your love for me and for all Your people, through Jesus Christ Your Son. August 21 It's great to be back...So it’s been a while....Since I last posted. This also means it has been six months since I posted last. The time really flies. And I would like to thank my space friends who have been visiting my site every so often and I also would like to apologize about the long absence. By the way, here is what has been happening. · February – I arrived here in the Philippines and went straight to my sister’s place to celebrate my niece’s birthday. The whole family and Terry (my boyfriend) were there. My father decided to extend his vacation till March so as to spent time with us. We went home then day after that. Some relatives came over to see me. I also went out to meet with my old friends and spent time with them. There were picnics and dinners. · March - Graduation Day for my two kid brothers. EJ just graduated from High school and Ern from the primary level. My father flew back to KSA. I was happy because we really did had the time together. · May – Dr. Peter Wong and Dr. Sheila Toquero (Terry’s cousin) got married. It was great seeing them getting married. They had a wonderful wedding. May 13th, I found a job as a Telemarketer in Baguio City. I got a warm puppy and named him Patchi. He of course is looking very cute. · June – Jowell and Racquel’s wedding · July - Work has been quite busy for me lately. There are a bunch of political calls we are doing right now. I will have to start making some posts specifically on work soon. Though due to my work schedule I can only be home during weekend, I can say that Patchi had come along nicely and I have really enjoyed seeing him develop.
Above is a quick high level of what I’ve been up to. I really miss writing entries. But I can say that, For now, I'm around. <
January 30 Thank YouI want to thank each and every one of you for your wonderful comments...
Hello everybody... I know it's been a few days since I've written but things have been really hectic here with my work. As I have mentioned earlier about my plan of leaving for a change and I have been very busy packing up my things lately. I have been occupied as well handing over my responsibilities at work. Finally, I am done with all the documents and annual reports required.
For those who do not know me yet and what I do. Here is a little about me. I have stayed and worked for more than 3 years here in United Arab Emirates as Engineering Coordinator in one of the Rotana hotels here in Middle East. Rotana Hotel is one the leading Middle Eastern hotel chain at the moment. It has 22 hotel properties including all the resorts, 5 stars hotels, suites and inns. Last year, the company had opened 8 properties. This year, they are going to open 10 more properties. Unfortunately, they are only expanding in the Middle East.
I am going to miss a lot of things in here. I have been working with different types of nationalities yet I feel their respect on me. They have been so thoughtful at times, I see roses, chocolates and other things placed on my table not because they want to court me. But simply because they feel like doing such. No matter how small it is, it is just the thought that counts most. When I feel they are pressured, I try to talk to them and joke with them. Every time I get the chance, I tried to go near them and asked them about their families. It has been great knowing their little stories and their culture.
Everybody was surprised at work when they learned I am leaving. I can feel their sadness and I was surprised that most of them want to throw a leave party for me. I am flattered that I feel their sincerity. Though they belong to different types of groups and they have scheduled different dates for the party yet the big one will be on 31st. (I am going to post the photos when I am done with them).
It is also known in the hotel that I am one of the people who have received such respect and admiration. It so heart warming. I thank God for taking care of me while I stay here. I am going back home to Philippines, stay there for awhile until I find another job overseas. I am going to see my father who works in KSA and whom I have not seen for morethan 4 years. I will be spending time with my family and friends at home and it is going to be wonderful. I have missed them very much as well.
Being away from home and love ones is really difficult but I needed to come here for my work. It is the Good Lord that I have been with all the time. Every morning, I open my eyes and thank Him, asking Him to make use of me for His will, that may people see Him on me, that may He be my hand, my eyes, my ears, mind and my heart. I am aware that you cannot please everybody. But you can just feel when people get to accept and love you. I also pray that I may handle pressure properly and understand things which don’t fit my way. I pray that may He keep my family, love ones and friends safe and well. I am pleased with the fruit of His spirit which had kept my Integrity still. I am going to treasure and cherish each one of my friends at work, families who have welcomed me here and friends i met along and you my space friends. Thank you all for being part of me.
I am really looking forward to this coming year and with all its sweet surprises. So, it is with high-hopes and a light heart that I begin this new year with great anticipation for what is to come, for the many opportunities that each day brings for me to find all the things that I wish for all of you...HAPPINESS...PEACE....and above all else is... LOVE...
And before I go, I am going to leave you something to think about as anyway we are approaching the month of Love month of February. I may not be writing entries for the next few days or perhaps for a month. But I promise I’ll be back. May God bless you all and thanks again…..
To My Friends Who Are...........SINGLE if you just let it fly, it will come to you when you least expect it. Love can make you happy but often it hurts, but love's only special when you give it to someone who is really worth it. So take your time and choose the best.
finding someone who helps you become the best person you can be.
aren't there. Never touch a life if you mean to break a heart. Never look in the eye when all you do is lie. The cruelest thing a guy can do to a girl is to let her fall in love when he doesn't intend to catch her fall and it works both ways...
but "I'm right here." Not "how could you", but "I understand." Not "I wish you were", but "I'm thankful you are."
good you are for each other.
go. The challenge is not how to survive heartbreaks but to learn from them.
persistent, share and never be unfair, understand and try not to demand, and get hurt but never keep the pain.
it's more painful to know that the one you love is unhappy with you.
someone breaks up with you. But love hurts the most when the person you love has no idea how you feel.
find out in the end that it was never meant to be and that you have wasted years on someone who wasn't worth it. If he isn't worth it now he's not going to be worth it a year or 10 years from now. Let go.....
never-changing, uplifting, protective, encouraging, rewarding and unselfish. January 15 Random Thoughts
I received an inquiry about the comment I left from one of my space friends Tana. I may not be able to answer properly the question I raised for her blog entry "Head or Heart" which is “Why Head is situated higher or why it is placed higher than the Heart” But I can say, every situation requires a lot of thinking and that sometimes we assume that our heart thinks. That in love, we find our hearts being favored more. But from general opinion, Head is placed higher for it has its own purpose and whenever necessary it should serve its purpose. It will always be a mystery, though. I just feel that I cannot leave this blog without sharing this article by Kent Nerburn. It has always been my favorite.
Here’s to you Tana and to all who wants to be filled as well with love.
January 04 Change...Principle of LifeHappy New Year Everyone…
I am now back and would like to continue writing about my blog on insightful teachings. I am actually heading the path to some changes..... . After 3 years and 6 months on my job, I finally decided to leave for career advancement elsewhere (though haven’t found one yet at this time). This move will definitely cause lots of changes on the side.. a change on environment and a change on habits. In every decision that we make, I can say that consequences (be it favorable or unfovarable one) always come along. Yet I always want to believe that there is nothing to fear from change. Here’s what I thought and had reflected recently about “changes”.........
An important part of building the life we want is learning to accept change. And not only to accept it, but to embrace it, and seek it out. Change is the principle of life itself. As Charles Darwin has said, "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change."
As a matter of fact, we are changing right this minute without even noticing it. Did we know that the cells in our bodies are constantly changing and renewing themselves? Every four weeks, our skin is totally new. our gums are replaced every two weeks, and our stomach linings every four days. Over a year, 95% of all the trillions of cells that make up "us" are changed.
Of course, this is happening with no effort on our part. But if we're called upon to react to a change from the outside, or when we find ourselves in a stagnant situation and know that something needs to change – that's when, for a lot of us, change can be frightening. This can be from the uncertainty it brings with it, or because it pushes us out of our comfort zone.
What's important to remember is that change always brings opportunity, an opportunity to grow in a new direction. I guess there is nothing to fear from change. We should only fear not to change. As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience."
We can't afford to let any fears stand in our ways. So when a change appears suddenly in our lives, rather than retreat into our shells, I guess we should come out to embrace it, and look for the opportunities it presents to grow. Or when we reach a stalemate in life, we should step out boldly and initiate a change ourselves.
May you all never stop growing.
November 22 Optimistic Drive As we persist on this path let us be aware of the optimistic drive that is surrounding us. We might only be able to catch glimpses of it, yet know that it is there supporting us. And it will grow stronger and stronger as we continue in our work together.
We might want to embrace this thought: Happiness is a journey, not a destination. Think about this for a moment. We've been taught that getting the job, the relationship, the house, or some other want will bring us happiness. What often happens, once a dream is achieved, is that the happiness we longed to feel is fleeting at best, and then we quickly find ourselves thinking, "What else can I get to make me happy?" This thinking doesn't serve us. After all, how many times have we read tragic stories about the rich and famous, people who have money galore and every material desire, but still happiness eludes them. We try to continue moving forward creating the life of our dreams and not be carried away with small failures or temporary setback. We do not need to stop dreaming and achieving our heartfelt desires, but rather to experience happiness on a more consistent basis -- to enjoy the journey. I think it will be helpful treating ourselves to some small, harmless indulgence on a regular basis. When we have a happy and positive frame of mind, I want to believe that we set in motion opportunities that will enable us to achieve the things we want most of all. Until Our Hopes and Wishes"What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us."....Ralph Waldo Emerson
It helps to write our hopes and wishes down on a sheet of paper, making sure we are enthusiastic about each one and that they are specific. There are people who had successfully become what they wanted to be yet had no training and no proven value. They were not celebrities in their fields as they can imagine and they didn't have an instant entrée into the profession. However, they did have a dream. Step by step, they made their dreams come true, and so can we. My friends, as much as we may believe we have selected our dreams, I believe our dreams select us. And if we listen to our inner voice, there is something that pushes us to use your special gifts and talents. Let us allow it to happen. We need to give ourselves up to our dreams and follow them wherever they take us and we hope to enjoy the trip. November 11 Persistence and Determination"We do not have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step." Success-minded thinking requires a willingness to view life with a positive perspective. It also calls for persistence and determination. I once read a passage saying, "Press on. Nothing can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; the world is full of unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education alone will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." To help us stay persistent and embrace success-minded thinking, we should try to commit ourselves to building and maintaining friendships that enrich and enhance our lives and our dreams. I like to call these people "true fans and supporters." They are the ones who believe in us and want us to achieve our desires. They cheer us on, celebrate our accomplishments, and lift us up when we are feeling down. Though , we wish to sincerely support other people as well. There might be a need to limit time and set clear boundaries with those who are constantly negative, unsupportive, or drain our precious energy. They are on a different path than us. Perhaps our positive ways will influence them to make a change in their own life, perhaps not. Remember, we can't make anyone change who is not ready. Therefore to press on, I guess we should try to surround ourselves with positive like-minded people. And lastly, who knows… Great success will come if we are persistent in an acceptable way.
Articles by: R. G. Edited by: Mary Rose October 31 Realizing One's DreamsDistinguishing between our wants and our needs is an essential part of realizing our dreams. While many of us may want a Jaguar or a new wardrobe, or a number of other things, we don't necessarily need to have them in order to live a joyful, productive life. We certainly can desire or obtain material things in your life. But while we wait patiently for our desires to take hold, most of us need to be reminded of the abundance that we do have. It is important to appreciate the positive things around us. Recognizing our assets and giving gratitude for them makes for a very powerful situation to live joyfully in the present as well as to set the stage to attract more of what you want. The easiest way to do this is to write down in a journal at least one thing we are grateful for each day. Should we run into an obstacle that is preventing us from realizing one of our dreams, we should take out our journal and read down the list of things we wrote, and we will feel a force of positive energy surge through our bodies. We need to remember above all, it is the person we become, and not the things we achieve or the things we acquire, that is most important. Articles by: R. G. Edited by: Mary Rose October 27 Path to Positive Change
Success-minded thinking requires a real commitment to personal growth. Exploring one’s interests and unique talents. If there is something we love doing, then it is very important that we find way to do it. Though, it is not suggesting that we drop everything in order to pursue something like a certain career, but let us take the time to think about ways we can include our pursuits in your current life.
We also want to get away from thinking that it has to be "all or nothing." One should have some time to think about what he/she really enjoys doing and should jot down top 3 favorite pastimes on alist. Then write down small ways we can fit them into our lives. As a person pursues his talents in this way, he will experience a new level of satisfaction because he is expressing more of who he is. Anytime a person expresses his authentic self, he will surely discover avenues of achievements that he would never haf dreamed of.
The most important thing is to believe in one's self. The next most important thing is to embrace persistence — we should try not to give up for any reason until we are living the life we want. Sometimes we need to trust our intuition, as it won't steer us wrong. If deep down in our unconscious is telling us, “There has to be more to my life," rest assured that there is more, and that it is the time we went after it!
